In 2009 a friend was visiting me in Washington, DC, for my birthday and we decided to make a Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix. And then we bought an ice cream cake. And a mocha buttercream cake. And before I knew it, I’d had nine cakes in seven days, and a tradition was born.
Since then I’ve had Cake Weeks in Paris, North Carolina, Chicago, New York, Montana, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Washington, DC. You’d be surprised how hard it can be to organize seven cakes in seven days (by-laws permit one day of two pies in lieu of cake), but if you’re interested in trying it, drop me a line. I love to plan cake week almost as much as I love to participate!
The last two cake weeks have been fully homemade, a fun challenge, rife with failure and ripe with mild joint pain.
